90 points, Vinous
Bright purple. Aromas of blackberry, cherry liqueur, succulent herbs and woodsmoke, lent urgency by a spicy overtone. Fleshy and smooth in the mouth, displaying very good clarity to the bitter cherry and blackberry flavors. A licorice quality builds on a pliant, appealingly sweet finish shaped by suave, harmonious tannins.
Youthfully shy, a bit of aeration reveals notes of sweet pipe tobacco and juicy flavors of ripe blue and red berries, anise and mild peppercorns. More a statement of freshness than porty over-extraction the wine delivers a mouthful of piquant just-picked raspberries. At its best now through 2020
