All you ever wanted to know about barrel aging wines is presented in this seminar presented by Adelaida’s Wine Educator, Tony Hermann. Tony will explain the chemistry of wood, the magic of oak in wine, the differences between American, French and Hungarian oak, the role of the cooper (how barrels are made), toast levels and their contribution to the finished wine, the effect of barrel size, new oak vs neutral oak, barrel alternatives (oak chips – not used at Adelaida) and more. Sample wines from different barrels to demonstrate their effects. The intermission will include appetizers and a seven year vertical tasting of Reserve Syrah (Viking and Glenrose Vineyards) 2003-2009. Included will be the premier showing of the currently unreleased 2009 Anna’s Vineyard Block 6 Reserve Syrah (Robert Parker 93 pts.) Wine Club Members attending will receive a special 25% discount that day on wines purchased. Limited to 36 guests. Reservations required. pati@adelaida.com $45/$36 club pricing
