Michael’s 18 acres lies on rolling mountain terrain.  Planted in 2003, it is a traditional dry farmed, head trained vineyard.   Benefiting from the DNA of heritage clones from two local old vine vineyards it produces low yields of briary, berry patch flavored wines.  The Reserve bottling, from a best block of the vineyard, was aged in mostly neutral French oak with just 10% new American oak.  The distinctive character of the new American oak infuses the wine with its rich hazelnut and marshmallow-bittersweet chocolate nuances.  The cooler 2010 vintage contributes a racy, crisp acidity, balancing the plush, ripe fruit.  Prone to uneven ripening, fruit is picked using multiple passes through the vineyard, clipping only the perfectly ripe clusters.  This labor intensive process avoids raisins and gives more vibrant fresh flavors. Drink now through 2016.
