91+ Points. The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker Jr
Complex and elegant, with bright, brambly aromas and flavors, the 2011 Version Reserve checks in as a blend of 50% Mourvedre, 38% Syrah and 12% Grenache. Blackberry, raspberry, underbrush, spring flowers and spice all emerge from the glass and this medium to full-bodied blend has juicy, lively acidity, solid overall balance and plenty of length. Enjoy it over the coming 7-8 years. Drink now-2021.
raspberries, cedar, sagebrush, cured tobacco leaf
plums, wood smoke, cumin-coriander, wild game
lamb in rosemary-mint sauce, Sicilian sausage and garden tomato marinara over penne, chicken breasts with porcini mushrooms
This wine represents Adelaida’s first ever Reserve designation for a Rhone Style blend. A best barrel selection of only three varieties, it shows what can be accomplished in a difficult year with low vineyard yields and a non-interventionist winemaking approach. The wine emphasizes the personality of Mourvedre, with its characteristic mildly gamey bouquet and fleshy dark fruit. Quite open for a young wine, its initial invitation is a complex of aromatics, from raw meat to Provence herbs to blackberries, transitioning to velvety textured flavors of boysenberry preserves accented by tame hints of sagebrush. Its warm viscosity leads to a juicy persistent finish.
