The 15 acres of syrah planted in 2001 at Anna’s Vineyard climb steeply from Block 1 at approximately 1700 feet up to Block 5 and 6 at close to 2000 feet. Block 5 and 6 are planted with small berry Châteauneuf-du-Pape clones. Block 1 through 3 a variety of clones. For the 2012 wines, there is an underlying richness and precision that the nearly perfect growing season of the vintage gave us. Not only did warm temperatures return after two consecutively cool years, but yields were up too.
This Reserve wine is a blend of Block 5 and Block 1, the best of the Blocks tasted during aging in barrel by the Winemaker. Essentially the best barrels and best sites for this vintage. A bright, voluptuous, mouth filling syrah with dark forest fruits, purple flowers and toasty oak notes.
