A darling of the alternative white wine movement, Viognier, a white Rhone variety, shines in the chalk rock soils of Westside Paso Robles. Its effusive fruity aromatics and lush texture are amplified by the low yield limestone soils and the nearby cooling Pacific marine influence. Summer heat did not accelerate the delayed, cool 2010 Spring fruit set, resulting in a later than normal Sept. 29th harvest. With Viognier, ideal ripeness is paramount to achieving aromatic purity and balancing natural fruit acidity.
An exotic bouquet of citrus zest, honeysuckle blossom and white flowers sets the stage. The wine’s pale straw color belies its richness, delivering an energetic lift of tangerine accents to the heirloom pear and nectarine mélange, all wrapped in a mineral tinged, very long and persistent finish. Maintaining its vibrant personality through 2014/2015 (but why wait). 305 cases produced.
