Pinot Noir HMR Vineyard 2009

Pinot Noir HMR Vineyard 2009

HMR is a celebrated vineyard in the hills of west Paso Robles. This historic vineyard, dating back to 1964,  has proven successful for Burgundian varieties because of its unique microclimate, 10-15 degrees cooler than surrounding sites and only 14 miles from the Pacific.

The wine develops an aromatic note of red fruits and herbs with texture and delicate flavors of ripe cherry and sweet pipe smoke,  flavors of winter nutmeg and allspice.  Drink now or hold until 2015.

Adelaida’s historic HMR Vineyard is the oldest Pinot Noir vineyard on the Central Coast.  Nearing 50 years, the 35 acres of historic Pinot Noir vines are situated in a rare mountain microclimate in the folds of the Santa Lucia Mountain range, 14 miles from the ocean.  Planted on indigenous calcareous soils, these temperature sensitive vines benefit from a moderating site, minimizing the warmer afternoon sun exposure.   This ideal terroir offers a rare template for translating Burgundy flavors onto a California raised wine; elegance over brawn.

A brilliant magenta color, with a bit of aeration the young wine develops an aromatic note of savory rhubarb and first flush brewed tea.  In the mouth one finds an open knit texture and delicate flavors of ripe cherry skin complexed with a subtle sandalwood incense smokiness and spice-like flavors of nutmeg and allspice.  An early maturing vintage this Pinot is best enjoyed in the near term 2012 – 2015.   Unfined, Unfiltered.     545 cases produced.
