HMR is a celebrated vineyard in the hills of west Paso Robles. This historic vineyard, dating back to 1964, has proven successful for Burgundian varieties because of its unique microclimate, 10-15 degrees cooler than surrounding sites and only 14 miles from the Pacific.
The wine develops an aromatic note of red fruits and herbs with texture and delicate flavors of ripe cherry and sweet pipe smoke, flavors of winter nutmeg and allspice. Drink now or hold until 2015.
Emphasizing the heft of Syrah and the lush berry flavor of Cabernet Sauvignon, its final form is shaped by the aromatics of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc plus three other grapes. Through many blending trials this eclectic wine was ultimately based on quality and flavor, not expediency. We recommend keeping extra on-hand as this wine is meant to share. Purchase by the case and receive the case price of $168.00. ( $72.00 savings) No additional discounts apply.
Opaque in the glass, as deep color and dark fruit aromatics were the trade mark of 2009. The wine shows intense black and red fruits on the nose. As the wine slowly opens up, cassis and pomegranate scents make way for anisette, violets, chestnut and cocoa aromas to show themselves. The attack on the palate is full on- expansive and seductive. Lush, brooding fruits are laced with great acidity and striking balance, being both soft and rounded for immediate gratification and concentrated enough hold until 2017. Unfined, unfiltered.

92 points- Los Angeles International Wine Competition. Adelaida’s only dry farmed vineyard, Michael’s, planted in 2003, contains 18 acres of traditional head pruned, heritage Zinfandel clones sourced from the Paso Robles AVA. Covering a wave-like, undulating hilltop, the vineyard has varying elevations, from 1,580 to 1,735 feet. Dry land farming is a holistic practice with annual spring deep disking to turn the topsoil, followed by ring rolling to smooth the surface, compacting the dust mulch to seal in the available moisture. The site, selected for its base of top soil and minimal erosion, is appropriate for deep rooted vines. Low yields are the norm, around 1 ton/acre. At 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard has ideal exposure to the natural arc of the summer sun, and benefits from the dramatic diurnal temperature cool down of 40-50 degrees from the daytime highs.
It a true reflection of the great wines of the 2010 vintage. The Syrah was planted in 2001 walks the tightrope between finesse and concentration. It has a stylish perfume of raspberries and dried herbs. The palate is concentrated and seductively lush with dark fruits, South American dark chocolate, hints of vanilla bean and subtle tannins. Drink through 2018. Unfined, unfiltered.
