The Viking Syrah is a great example of this varietal matched to an extreme Vineyard location. The two inseparable elements of site and grape combine perfectly to give us a wine that epitomizes the “sense of place” philosophy. This rich, dark wine displays classic syrah aromas of blackberries and white flowers combined with the high toned blueberry perfume from the Viking Vineyard. Wonderfully pure, round, supple dark fruit and chocolate flavors are supported by ripe tannins and the winemaker’s moderate use (30% new) of French oak. Beautifully showy now, this well-balanced wine will drink well for a decade. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the wine will throw a natural sediment. Decanting recommended.
